Reflective analysis of my blog

This post will look at my blog in depth on its successes, its failures and where I could improve if I were to carry on with my blog. The idea of my blog was to present a weekly roundup of the NBA and to also do hot topics occasionally, with a target audience of NBA novices I thought these would be the right topics to cover. I wanted people to try and get people into basketball by giving an account of the week’s games. I’m personally quite new to basketball myself so I thought this would be a good blog for people to read as it doesn’t have too much in depth information that other novices wouldn’t understand and is quite a light-hearted easy read.

As can be seen in the gallery below it shows the viewership that I have received whilst I have been doing my blog. Overall, for the whole time I have been doing my blog, I have received 28 visitors and 231 blog views across 10 posts. I have also received 20 likes and 11 comments (which I will go more in depth on later in audience engagement). It can be seen that when I started out with this blog that things were extremely slow. This may have been due to my lack of advertisement and lack of posts due to the NBA having conflicting schedules with the All-Star games. March did pick up with more visitors and more consistency with my blog post making them strictly week by week. However April was by far my best month with the heavy increase on advertising leading to a large influx on viewers, likes, comments and views. This made me feel like this blog was a success as people were actually going onto my blog and engaging with my blog, giving me positive feedback and some constructive criticism. However I did find it difficult to engage with my audience. As can be seen on the last photo it shows my stats for what people were viewing and majority came on my homepage. This is due to every blog post comes on in full on the homepage and there is little to no need in clicking into the posts, hence the lack of comments I received, something that could have been avoided perhaps if I did a social media account.

Promotion was something that I did struggle with throughout this assignment as I found it difficult to engage with what I wanted to be my target audience and people who actually wanted to read blog posts in general. I started of with advertising on Facebook at the start of March (once I had some consistency in my uploads with the NBA season back to normal). I did this on my own Facebook wall and by sending messages to my group chats to try and get some direct promotion (see gallery below). However I quickly realised I was targeting my efforts in the wrong places and that I was advertising to people that no only didn’t really care about basketball, but also had no interest in reading blogs in general. At the start of April this became a big worry to me as I realised I haven’t been getting enough views. So I called in some help from one of my friends who is a blogger and has a blogging twitter account with of 1521 followers (see pictures 4 and 5 in the gallery below). She was kind enough to tweet out my blog to people that although may not be that interested in basketball but have a vested interest in looking at blogs and as can be seen above my stats for April were rather impressive. Overall I probably would have liked a few more visitors on my blog, however with basketball being quite a niche and American sport I am happy with the outcome.

Engagement was also something that I wanted to make sure I kept up with my audience and was quite good at doing in responding to constructive criticism which I can be seen doing so below. My comments on my Facebook were more of support and not things that I could engage in but the few that I had on my blog I made sure I kept up to date with once I was in full flow of my blog. I think this was one of the main problems in which I faced as if people were viewing on the homepage then they wouldn’t be commenting or liking on individual posts, which was problematic, but form the feedback I did get I did try and reply and thank people for viewing. Also I was happy to see that when I did mix up my content people did seem to enjoy it and I wish I had done it more towards the end and in hindsight I would have varied it up more often if I had received these comments at the start.

I also think consistency was an issue at the start of doing these blog posts. During February the NBA has a weird schedule with the All Star weekend so it threw my schedule off a lot at the start which I was quick to rectify come the end of this period. If there wasn’t such a break at the start I would have maybe tried to do a social media account but thought that period of absence might hurt me in trying to do it daily for the future, if this project was at the start of the season then I would have liked to do daily updates with NBA games being on everyday.

Overall, my main learning point would not to pick such a niche subject. I was trying to have my target audience as novices to basketball, which I believe was a success, but I was trying to advertise an American sport to a predominately UK based audience which I believe made my job harder. As even if people were inspired to watch basketball it is often on at around 1-3 am UK time, due to being an American sport. In hindsight I definitely would have picked a UK sport that didn’t have such a sporadic schedule when starting my blog. Also if I was going to stick with basketball I would have used a social media account like Instagram and done daily updates with daily games as I believe this would have been more interactive than doing a blog was.

NBA – Round Up – 01/04/19 – 07/04/19

Teams of the week

Can you hear the Thunder?

Three wins for the Thunder this week shows why they have come fourth in the Eastern division. Russel Westbrook was a key part to why they here so good this week (but he’s going to be my player of the week so will go more in depth on his efforts later). Wins against the Lakers, Pistons and Timberwolves, these teams haven’t made the playoffs showing why the Thunder have done so well and that they may be able to put pressure on some of the favourites.

Blast off

The Rockets have been pretty dominant for most of this season and James Harden has constantly been the reason for it. Like the Thunder they also had three wins this week with Harden leading the scoring in all of them. They had there place in the playoffs wrapped up a while ago but still have carried on good form there after. With how well the Rockets work together and with Hardens consistent scoring record there is no reason why they can’t challenge for the championship this year.

Ready for a championship push this year? (Garcia, 2017)

The Golden era is here

This is the first time the Golden State Warriors have made it to my teams of the week since the first blog. 4 games being won this week shows how dominant they have been this week and why they are my favourite to take home the championship this year (providing they don’t throw away 3-1 leads). Easy wins against the Hornets, Nuggets, Lakers and Cavaliers. These are games that they shouldn’t be losing with only the Nuggets managing a playoff place and they haven’t disappointed. Curry, Cousins, Durant and Green are all star players and work extremely well together, providing they all stay fit I believe the championship will be there.

Room for improvement…

Detroit are on the wrong list this week

From some impressive victories last week the Detroit Pistons have had an absolute mare this week. They lost twice to the Pacers and again to the Thunder. It is a shame that they went from such glory last week to just having a horrid time this week. Andre Drummond for me seems Pistons only stand out player and if they are ever going to compete properly then they are going to have to do something to attract a world class variant of players and I personally do not know what that is.

Too hot for the heat

4 losses to for the Heat this week really does just some up there whole season. Two losses in a row to the Celtics and a further two to the Timberwolves and Raptors. These are games that the Miami Heat should be able to at least give a good go at trying to win, but it seems that due to them not getting payoffs they have gave up with the end of there season. Dwayne Wade seems to be the only one that wants to keep trying in his retirement season and its sad to see him go when his team can’t respect him enough to keep trying towards the end of the season. Anyway happy retirement Dwayne Wade.

Would get a bad cut with these Clippers

A win and 2 losses this week has put the Clippers on this list for me. The loss to the non playoff Lakers was enough to put them on the list for me. The Clippers are playoff contenders this year and this week they don’t seem like they are going to be able to compete. There playoff start looks to be against the Golden State Warriors and with them being one of the strongest teams in the NBA it is going to be difficult for the Clippers to overcome and looking at this week they are definitely going to struggle.

Player of the week – IMO

20/20/20 vision. It has go be Russel Westbrook this week. In his game against the Los Angeles Lakers he got 21 points 20 assists and 20 rebounds. He is the second person to achieve this the other being Wilt Chamberlain. This is such as good achievement that I looked no further as you can’t have someone do something in a game that is in the record books and not highlight it. It is actually a fantastic achievement and shows how important Russel Westbrook is for Oklahoma City Thunder and why they will hopefully go far in the playoffs.

That feeling of getting into the record books (CBBS Sports, 2019)

NBA – Round Up – 25/03/19 – 31/03/19

Teams of the week

Raptors weren’t extinct this week

Bulls, Knicks and Bulls again, there was no letting up for the Toronto raptors this week as they had 3 comfortable wins. Even though the Knicks and Bulls are amongst some of the weakest teams in the NBA at the moment, these are games that the Raptors could have lost especially since they have already achieved playoffs and are trying to rest stars such as Kyle Lowry and Khawi Leonard. However the second string teams still were too good, how it may be promising signs for the Raptors, alarm bells need to be constantly ringing for the Bulls and Knicks.

Back in the Jazz age

Some comfortable victories for the Jazz this week shows exactly what they have deserved there place in the playoffs this year. In the last three victories against the Suns, Lakers and Wizards. Usually it is Donavon Mitchell running the show and despite him being a staple in these victories it was Rudy Gobert who was running the show leading in points and assists for the Jazz in these games. Could this be an even newer age of Jazz with a championship push on the horizon?

Hands up for Detroit

Was quite difficult to pick a third team for this week but I want to highlight the efforts of the Detroit Pistons, with 2 losses and 2 wins this week. They started off the week with losses to the Denver Nuggets and the Golden State Warriors (which were expected) but they two big wins against other playoff contenders of the Magic and Trailblazers. These kind of victories need to be highlighted and with Andre Drummond pulling off a minimum of 17 rebounds a game over this period it shows the dominance in there defence and attack game.

Room for Improvement…

The Bulls continue there poor season…

Two losses for the Bulls at the hands of the Raptors and another to the Trailblazers shows a perfect week of losses. Its been an overall poor season for the Bulls and they just haven’t found a rhythm to even have a chance to push to even get close to a playoffs. Since the great days of having Michael Jordon carrying them to championships it doesn’t come easy for the Bulls anymore and looks like it wont for seasons to come.

The Cleveland show was cancelled in 2013…and when LeBron left

Since LeBron left Cleveland things have gone from bad to worse and they have had a season to forget. The Celtics, Spurs and Clippers had victories against the Cavaliers this week and in comfortable fashion. They have no highlight players other than Kevin Love who has been out for most of the season and they are going to struggle to attract any more players for the future with a lack of talent and it will be difficult to say whether they will be able to challenge again.

What would Cleveland give to have this man back. (Gibson, 2016)

Lost some pace at the end of the season

The Indiana Pacers have had a poor week, although they already have secured there first playoff game against the Celtics this week does not bode well for them. They lost all three games this week one including which was the Celtics. They only lost by two points but they will be going into the first playoff game having this in the back of there mind which may impact there performance. Hopefully they can try and get there heads straight but as a Celtics fan myself I do hope not.

Player of the week – IMO

Devon Booker (pictured below). Its the second time he has appeared on my team of the week but this week I cant hide away his efforts for the Suns. Even though the Suns lost both there games Devon Booker dropped massive back to back 50 point games. Considering the Suns lost both of these games, Devon Booker need to have a look to his future at Phoenix as back to back games like this don’t come very often and he need to see if his efforts are being appreciated enough and currently there not even close.

Where will this man be next year? (NBA.com, 2019)

NBA – Round Up – 18/03/19 – 24/03/19

Teams of the week

The magic hour is upon us

This is why there going to make the playoffs. With a tough start to the season the Orlando Magic are excelling in the back end of this season and are looking to clinch a place in the playoffs. With Vucevic averaging around 10 rebounds a game there is nothing stopping the big man in the middle and he is a vital part of the teams success. Do I think they will win the playoffs? No. Do I think they’ve had a great end to the season and deserve to be there? Absolutely.

Its better on the other side of Los Angeles

Maybe LeBron should of chose the clippers over the Lakers, because they’ve only gone and made the playoffs. 4 straight wins this week shows there dominance and why they deserve there place there. I always find with the clippers that they don’t really have any stand out performers but just like the Nuggets and the Pacers they all work like well oiled machines. Even though I don’t feel like they’ll be bale to go and win the playoffs but like the Magic they deserve there place and could definitely put some pressure on.

Following the trail to victory

3 straight wins and Damien Lillard seems to be the consistent story to the Portland Trailblazers success this year. In the 3 victories this week they he dominated points and assists for the Trailblazers and, in my opinion is one of the best players in the NBA and is a major credit into how well the Trailblazers have done this year. There looking to finish 4th in the Western Conference and I believe they can go quite far in the playoffs and I think there will be some surprise victories on the cards for the Trailblazers.

Room for improvement…

Luck of the Irish? Not this week

4 straight loses, if the Celtics hadn’t already got there place in the playoffs a while ago they would be in some serious trouble. They’ve featured on my room for improvement list twice now and although I am a self proclaimed fan of the team, they haven’t been up to scratch in the back on of this season. Without a serious challenge for the championship I can personally see Kyrie Irving leaving to a team that can not only get to the playoffs but also win it. Maybe this could change with the hopeful signing of Anthony Davis?

Couldn’t Knick a win if they tried?

Although this sub heading may be a bit unjust due to the Knicks getting a win last week (praise the lord), they went back to there usual ways. Raptors, Nuggets, Clippers and the Jazz were just too much for the Knicks. Feel like this blog could have just been a judgement of the Knicks and I would have had enough content to cover a lifetime. Will the Knicks ever be great again and relive the glory days of Patrick Ewing, unless they can have a compete overall, I cant see it happening to the foreseeable future.

Harry Potter can’t help you now

Its been a pretty difficult season for the Washington Wizards and this week was another dent in the spirits with 4 straight loses. A big deficit to the Utah Jazz followed by loses to the Bulls, Nuggets and Heat shows how frustrating it was to be a Wizards fan this week. I not too familiar to the Wizards squad but Bradley Beal was in my player of the week a few weeks back but this isn’t enough to get you a playoff push or even contend for a spot.

Player of the week – IMO

The NBA gave there player of the week to James Harden and the rookie Trae Young but I’ve got to give it to Damian Lillard. He put the Trailblazers in my team of the week with sinking the most points and having the most assists in the games as well. If he’s not scoring he’s assisting and if he’s not assisting he’s scoring. The man is an absolute powerhouse and is one of the reasons to why the Trailblazers have had such a good season and this week I couldn’t let his efforts go unnoticed.

NBA – Round Up – 11/03/19 – 17/03/19

Teams of the week

The Spurs streak continues

Aldridge, DeRozan, Aldridge, DeRozan. These two are just phenomenal. alternating between them on who is going to score the most points in each of there 4 victories this week. Granted the Knicks and Mavericks should always be winnable games but to come away with wins against the Trailblazers and the Bucks in the same week is rather impressive. They have now clinched a spot in the playoffs and although I don’t think they will be able to win it there is no reason why they cant put the pressure on and make a team slip up – as they clearly have the talent to do so.

Ba Da Ba Ba Bah, I’m Lovin’ it

The Nuggets finally make it into my team of the week. Although they may have not had the hardest of opponents in the Timberwolves, Mavericks and the Pacers, they have still managed to get the 3 wins this week. With solid performances all round by Millsap and Jokic they have comfortably walked through this week and have already guaranteed themselves a spot in the playoffs. I don’t feel like the Nuggets have any world class kind of players, but the team cohesion that is present is the reason while they’ll be a tricky team to beat when it comes to the playoffs.

Jokic in action (Manning, 2017)

It’s always sunny in Philadelphia

What a team the 76ers have. Embiid, Simmons, Butler and more. An absolute quality team that have been pulling off some quality results. Last year Ben Simmons was rookie of the year and he doesn’t seem to be letting up this year and his partnership with Embiid seems to be going from strength to strength. They are my longshot favourites to go far in the playoffs and put some pressure on the favourites.

Room for improvement…

Pelicans hungry for a win

With a disgruntled Anthony Davis playing for the Pelicans it was always going to be a difficult season for the Pelicans and this was also a difficult week for them. Losing to the Suns especially will hurt as that is a game in which they should be winning. Anthony Davis exclaiming that he wants to leave near the start of the season didn’t put the Pelicans in the best frame of mind for the future and with how poor they have been this season, there is no wonder why he wants to leave for somewhere where he can push for championships.

‘The Brow’ not looking in the best of spirits (Sports, 2016)

Toro! Toro! Bulls miss out for a win again.

Loses against the Lakers, Clippers and the Kings shows a second bad week for the Bulls. Missing out on a win again shows a difficult time for the Bulls and drastic changes will be needed if they are to challenge for anything again. LaVine cant just carry the team completely on his own and it is difficult to say whether the Bulls are able to put a team behind him that can support his ability. It is a question that he may need to ask himself over his future and what the Bulls have planned in the future.

The Grizzlies aren’t so scary

Although they only lost 2 games this week they were embarrassing to say the least. The Memphis Grizzlies are pout of playoff contention but will still want to give there fans something to cheer about for the end of the season. However, this week they will have been disappointed. Losing to the Wizards and the Hawks will always be difficult to accept for the Grizzlies and their fans. They have been inconsistent most of this season and hopefully next season they will try and find some consistent runs of form.

Player of the week – IMO

Beal and Gobert picked up the player of the week for there respected conferences, however I want to highlight the efforts of the Phoenix Suns Devon Booker. Although they may have only managed 1 win against the Pelicans this week, Devon Booker can easily be seen as the highlight player in all the games this week. He dropped 40 points against the Pelicans and even managed over 20 in the other games. He has consistently been the Suns best player this season and his efforts shouldn’t go unnoticed even though the team may be one of the weakest in the NBA.

NBA – Round Up – 04/03/19 – 10/03/19

Teams of the Week

Nothing but Nets

DINWIDDIE. Personally I hadn’t really known of Spencer Dinwiddie (pictured below), but this week he hasn’t half caught my attention. The Brooklyn Nets had 4 straight wins this week, with Dinwiddie topping the scoring in 3 out of 4 games. All the games that they won were games that they were looking to win and apart from a tight 114-112 win against the Atlanta Hawks, they dominated. With a spot to qualify still up for grabs in the Eastern conference, they will hope to extend this good run of form and make it to the playoffs.

Spencer Dinwiddie playing for the Brooklyn Nets (Tamayo, 2018)

Memphis finishing strong to a rough season??

What a week for the Memphis Grizzlies! At the start of this week everyone would have had the Grizzlies down for another disappointing week with them having to face the Portland Trailblazers and the Utah Jazz, who already have there playoff places, but how we were wrong. The Grizzlies may have struggled this season but with help from the scoring efforts of PG Mike Conley they cruised past these opponents. For me this may have just been a lucky spell as they are long out of playoff contention, but things may look promising for the Grizzlies come the 2019-20 season.

Doing better than Hotspurs

The San Antonio Spurs are currently on a phenomenal run of form, they have there place in the playoffs and extended there winning ways this week. Beating the Nuggets, Hawks and Bucks in the process. With a scoring partnership of DeRozan and Aldridge there is no wonder that they have there playoff spot. It will be interesting to see whether they can extend this form on to next week and due to how well they’ve been on recent, I personally don’t think there is any stopping them.

Room for improvement…

LeBron can’t do it all?

It just isn’t good enough by the Lakers the season. Defeats to the Clipper (there LA rivals), Nuggets and the Celtics sparks the major debate of what went wrong for the Lakers. Of course with LeBron James only recently returning from injury and Lonzo Ball being out for the remainder of the season it was always going to be difficult to pull off some wins. However, they just hasn’t even come close to there full potential and this could be the first year in 14 that LeBron has failed to reach the playoffs – is a transfer in the off season on the horizon – I would if i was him.

The realisation that you wont be making the playoffs (Martinez, 2019)

Mess with the Bull, you WONT get the horns?

Despite a surprise win against the 76ers this week the Bulls just haven’t got to full charge at all this week, or even this season. Back to Back losses against the Pistons and another loss against the Pacers shows the story of there season. I personally haven’t even tried to watch a Bulls game this season as it half the time just looks like a training game for the other team and they don’t even look like there trying. Zach Lavine is a player I admire but whilst at the Bulls I feel he is just wasting his time.

They’ll be Knicking themselves after this week

2nd time in two weeks the New York Knicks are finding themselves on my room for improvement list and my god do they deserve it this week more than any. 4 straight losses to the Suns, Kings, Timberwolves and the Pacers really just shows how bad they have been this season. In my opinion it has come to the point with the Knicks where I can’t see them getting out of this rut the seem to constantly be in. There’s going to have to be some overhaul for them ever to be ‘great again’ and I am not what that will even be.

Player of the week – IMO

The only person who I want to give player of the week to is LaMarcus Aldridge. With the way the fixtures and weeks have been the NBA carried on with Mitchell and Simmons as there selections (Basketballreference.com, 2019) (back to normal next week)but LaMarcus Aldridge for me is one of the main reasons to why the Spurs have had such a successful week. Averaging just shy of 30 points over the games and even mustering 15 rebounds in another. The big centre can be seen as one of the main reasons why the Spurs could be playoff contenders.

NBA – Round Up – 22/02/19 – 03/03/19

Teams of the Week

The Bucks gallop on

The Milwaukee Bucks had a pretty dominant week only losing 1 out of 6 games to the Utah Jazz. With highlight performances from Giannis Antetokounmpo and Eric Bledsoe which in mist games leaded points, assists and rebounds there is no wonder why they had such a successful games period. They have their spot in the playoffs and there is no saying that they can’t go all the way to win the championship.

Jazz hands all round

The Utah Jazz had an absolute phenomenal time over this period, losing one game at the start of the week in 2OT the Oklahoma City Thunder. Beating some big-name teams like the LA Clippers and the Milwaukee Bucks showing that they didn’t just have a period of ‘easy opponents. Donavon Mitchell plays a huge part in this leading the individual scoring in all of the games playing a massive part in these victories and the reason why they are looking to make the playoffs.

3…2…1… Its all taking off

Having James Harden on your team is basically cheating this season for the Houston Rockets. He’s the man who has dropped the most 50-point games this season and has continued his dominance this week. He was the leading scorer in all 6 games and even dropping a massive 58 points in the game against Miami Heat. If you are a beginner to basketball watching James Harden and the Rockets will get you wanting to watch more!

Room for improvement…

Celtics get lost chasing the Rainbow

This was a period to forget for the Celtics, being the team that I follow the most it was a difficult few games. Losing 5 out of 6 games against some teams that they had no means in losing to. Albeit they may have had a very hard run of fixtures including the Rockets, Bucks, Raptors and Trail Blazers (all teams that have their playoffs places in the bag). Losing to the Bulls was also a big shock and with only a win against the Wizards it was a very disappointing period to say the least. Even though they are looking to clinch a playoff place this does not look good for Kyrie and the Celtics for there chances for the overall championships.

Thunder and lightening very very frightening..

What has gone wrong for the Thunder. During this period, it has become clear that Russel Westbrook and Paul George can’t do everything. Both of them led with assists and points and apart from a 4OT win against Utah Jazz the games they lost were poor. Losing to the Kings and Spurs which are simply games that they shouldn’t be losing. Although playoffs are looking likely, similar to the Celtics it doesn’t look good for them in winning overall. It will be under major consideration for George and Westbrook is the Thunder are in there future if they can’t challenge for the championship.

The failure of the monarch

Despite Buddy Hields best point scoring efforts, the Kings just couldn’t get going this week. Against some tough opponents like Golden State and the Bucks (although it went to OT) they have had a torrid period. Losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves will have been a tough pill to swallow and making the playoffs looks a highly unlikely thing to happen. Has been a difficult year for the kings overall and without drafting in some talent I personally can’t see it getting any better.

Player of the week – IMO

The NBA gave the player of the week to Ben Simmons andDonavon Mitchell (Basketball-reference.com, 2019), however I want to give it to Bradley Beal. The WizardsShooting Guard averages 26 points per game for the season and this average willhave benefited from this period, including having a 46-point game against theHornets (which they ended up losing). Although this period had some prettyheavy losses for the Wizards, the individual efforts from Beal deserve to be highlightedand he will have to consider his future in at the Wizards.

Team LeBron vs Team Giannis – NBA All-Star Game

Line-ups

Starters for each team (NBA.com, 2019)
Reserves for each team (NBA.COM, 2019)

Quarter 1 reaction

The first quarter of the All Stars game did not disappoint. this being the 68th All Star game had all, Alley Oops, 3 pointers and some monster dunks. it led to Giannis team leading at the quarter with Dirk Nowitzki throwing down some vintage 3 pointers in what will be his last season in the NBA with him retiring at the end of the season. With a load of Alley oops from Durant, Griffin and Giannis and Curry with some slick behind the back passes it had everything I could of asked for at the start of the game.

Quarter 2 reaction

Giannis’s team continue to dominate. Dirk carried on his 3 point rain and Steph Curry made an incredible bounce pass Alley Oop to Giannis which is a highlight play of the game in my opinion for sure. In this quarter you could see how this game was going to change though with Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony Towns making some huge plays for Team Lebron and you could really see them coming into there own. Lebron was also showing off them warning signs with 6 unanswered points on his own showing why he was voted as captain with them huge dunks.

Quarter 3 reaction

Quarter 3 saw some good plays from Giannis’s team like Paul George using Hardens trademark step back 3 point shot against him while sinking a 3 early on in the quarter. However the highlight move for me and all I could think about in this quarter was Dwayne Wade. With how well he has done with the Miami Heat on a personal level it was a shame that he is to retire at the end of the season (like Nowitzki) and the fact that how him and LeBron would never make a trademark play together again, how we were wrong. They made basically the same Alley Oops that the did all them years ago whilst both at the Heat, only difference was with Wade knowing this would be the last he couldn’t resist the temptation to look. Quarter 4 reaction

The 4th quarter saw Lebron’s team take the lead. Despite the efforts from team Giannis there was one ,an that seemed to be the difference, that being Kevin Durant. It seemed that all the Golden State boys had a great game and with Durant taking MVP off Giannis from this quarter alone, the man looked like he was on a different planet. The game finished Team Lebron 178 and Team Giannis on 164, meaning Lebron took the W and Durant snatched away the MVP from Giannis. Overall I thought it was thoroughly deserved with the performances from the team and especially Durant and LeBron. It was a good send of for Nowitzki and Wades last season and I’m excited to see the teams and also the captains next year.

NBA – Round Up – 05/02/19 – 15/09/19

Teams of the week

Lets start talking about the Pacers

In the last week and a half whilst keeping in touch with the NBA the team that most surprised me was the Pacers. On face value the team doesn’t seem to have that ‘All-Star’ player but the team works extremely well together. The team is overall 3rd in the Eastern Conference and with players performing the way they currently are they have a great chance at reaching the finals as the only team they were to lose against were the Milwaukee Bucks and with them being majorly ahead anyway it is a minor blip it what looks like a strong finish to the season.

It really does look like a Golden State

Unlike the Pacers the Golden State Warriors have a team full of superstars and this would explain there dominance in the Western conference, dominance that exceeded expectations this week with them winning 4 out of 5 games played (the only game they lost was to the Trail Blazers who are having a finals push). This to me seems incredible and are undoubtedly my favourites to win the playoffs this year.

Looks like magic to me

Orlando Magic may have not been the nest this season but over the recent week and a half have exceeded all expectations. With the only games they have lost being against the Oklahoma City Thunder they have excelled and also beat tough competition in the Milwaukee Bucks (conference leaders) and the New Orleans Pelicans –  I believe they have took advantage of the disgruntled Pelicans form the Anthony Davis trade rumours (a blog post on this will be done at a later date). Even though the Magic may be too late for a playoff push they can still have a strong end to the season and build towards next year.

Room for improvement…

The sun hasn’t risen in Phoenix

At the moment the Suns look like they are never going to get out of this slump, currently on a 15 game losing streak, thus not winning a game at all within this round up. Even with Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker, they seem to be the only two that are consistently performing eith the rest of the team letting them down and therefore it makes you think where thye might be this season or who the Suns need to draft in to try and compete as if you had a season ticket at the Suns this season id be asking for a refund.

Will the Knicks ever get better?

Before the last game of this week where the Knicks were against Atlanta Hawks they were on an 18 losing streak and are at the bottom of their respected conference and have the same amount of wins as the Suns do. The question will always remain if the Knicks will ever return to the glory days of Patrick Ewing or whether they are to be firmly positioned at the bottom of the conference https://yarn.co/yarn-clip/75d5ae1e-382f-4afe-95cd-c77d4dad9afb

The best player this week – IMO

The NBA chose Toronto Raptors Khawi Leonard and Utah Jazz’s Donavon Mitchell for this weeks NBA player of the week, this is understandable due to the form that both teams are in sand that they are the stand out players. However I want to highlight the efforts of Rajan Rondo. Since leaving the Celtics Rondo has had a difficult times and has now found himself at the Lakers. With finding it difficult to get into the first team with the injury of Lonzo Ball he seems to be trying to prove himself. His last gasp winner against Oklahoma City Thunder, taking it on himself rather than giving it to Lebron James, was a big call which ultimately paid off. Hopefully he can carry on this run of form and make himself a staple at the Lakers.

New Blog post on All Star NBA reactions on March 1st and another roundup on the March 5th which will be another week and a half round up due to the interference in NBA fixtures from the all star game!!!

The Start and Schedule

This blog is for my digital marketing module on my MSc Marketing course. The reason to why I have picked basketball to blog about is due to having an interest in the sport. Since only getting into basketball in the last couple of years, I am some what of a novice into what basketball and in particular the NBA is all about and therefore I believe this blog will be beneficial to any other people who are looking to get into basketball and want a novices account of it.

The blog will mainly consist of a weekly round up. This is where I will review the weeks NBA games and put a blog post out after, highlighting the best and worst teams, notable plays and the highs and lows of certain players who have had good or bad game weeks. Also, every other week I will put out an additional blog post surrounding the NBA’s hot topics such as ‘Is Lebron James the GOAT?’ and ‘Was the All-Stars right to snub Luka Doncic?’ These types of posts will be my own opinions, with my personal account of watching the players.

The schedule will look to be:

  • Monday/Tuesday – Weekly round up
  • Every other week – Hot Topics

I hope this blog is beneficial to people with sharing my experiences of the NBA.

Next post out the following Monday due to a shorter week due to the All Star Game ( which will also be covered ) so week and a half round up Monday/Tuesday to stick with the schedule with All Star live reactions on the Thursday !!!!!
